Nothing soothes a stressed out body after a hard day of work that the comfort of a relaxing home.
Two pieces of furniture have come to be labeled as “America’s Own” that have brought comfort and relaxation to a typical American family. We are talking about the Adirondack chair and its companion Adirondack chair footrest. The first chairs were created by Thomas Lee in 1903 while he was vacationing with his family in the Adirondack Mountains in West Point, New York. Suddenly finding himself in need of chairs for the outdoors, Lee developed designs for these chairs and built them with his own two hands. These chairs soon became a favorite of his family.
The construction of these chairs meet specific criteria. The parts of the first chairs were made from eleven pieces of wood, all of which were taken from a single wooden plank. This gave the chair its uniform appearance. Taking inspiration from the mountainsides, Lee made the chair with a straight, reclining back and the seat at an inclining angle. This unique design enables the chair to provide comfortable seating even if you set it up along steep rocky slopes, such as those found in the Adirondacks.
The first chairs also came with wide armrests for added comfort, which ultimately became the trademark of this type of chair. The Adirondack chairs of today have a few design modifications to meet the modern times, including rounded backs and contoured seats. Aside from wood, modern Adirondack chairs are also made from plastic or steel.
No chairs like these would be complete without an accompanying Adirondack chair footrest. For uniformity of appearance, the footrest is also made from the same material as the chair. The inclining seat of the Adirondack chair can be uncomfortable for the legs, which will be bent at the knee. Having an Adirondack chair footrest will enable you to put your feet up into a more relaxed position.
If you are thinking of bringing your family and friends for some barbecue, having these type of chairs will help them feel more at home and more relax hence enjoying their stay.
